About Dundalk Area

Located in Southeastern Baltimore County, Dundalk is a community rich in history and maritime tradition.

Dunalk, MD Map

Named after the Irish birthplace of Henry McShane, who established the McShane Bell Foundry in the area in 1895, Dundalk boasted 62 homes, one church, and two stores when Bethlehem Steel purchased 1,000 acres of land in the area in 1916 to create "a workingman's Roland Park." The result was one of the country's first planned communities, designed to be close enough to the steel company's Sparrows Point plant for workers to commute, but far enough away for them to escape the noise of the steel mills.

Today, Dundalk's citizens continue to enjoy being part of a small, friendly community, while having easy access to the entire Greater Baltimore area via the nearby Baltimore Beltway, I-95, the Key Bridge, and the Harbor and Ft. McHenry Tunnels.

With miles of Chesapeake Bay shoreline, ample park and recreation facilities, and numerous historic sites, Dundalk is just minutes away from downtown Baltimore and its many attractions, including the world-renowned Inner Harbor, Camden Yards (home of both Major League Baseball's Baltimore Orioles and the NFL's Baltimore Ravens), the National Aquarium, and more.

Heritage Commons in the heart of historic Dundalk also offers easy access to shopping (nine shopping centers in Dundalk alone, with shopping malls in White Marsh, Towson, and Glen Burnie just minutes away), more than a dozen churches, nearby schools, libraries, marinas, and two world-class hospitals (Hopkins Bayview and Franklin Square).
